Description
For our client, a very successful consultancy company we are looking for a senior engineer with 5+ years of experience of subsea pipeline design/construction/operations.
Skills in related areas such as risers, subsea systems, structures, or umbilicals and controls would be an advantage. This is a technical, hands-on role with an element of project engineering/management.
The company have a stream of challenging projects ranging from product development and deepwater analysis to trunk line design.
The role will consist of:
Field of work:
• Subsea pipelines, spools, risers, flexibles, and umbilicals
• Subsea systems: trees, controls, manifolds, steelwork
• Jackets, floating production, landfalls, landlines
Technical work:
• Data search, review and analysis
• Preparing, checking engineering calculations, particularly on Excel and Mathcad
• Report, specification and procedure writing and checking
• Input to drawings and interface with CAD
• FEA and CFD analysis
• Use of proprietary software packages
• Working within QMS, suggesting improvements, quality audits
• Consultancy at clients’ offices: problem solving, risk assessments
• Provide technical leadership to engineers and graduates
Supervision:
• Coaching and direction of pipeline engineers and graduates
Subcontractors and purchasing:
• Prequalification, evaluation, and award contract
• Monitor progress for on-time delivery
• Integrate their work/product with ours
Project management:
• Contract review
• Leading a small team
• Planning and costs schedules
• Progress assessment and reporting
• Client interface for data, progress, queries
• Typical project value up to £100,000
Sales and account management:
• Write, check proposal
• Client calls: relationship building, marketing, project clarification, follow up, technical work, close-out
• Generate repeat sales and cultivate new clients through use of customer relationship management
Qualifications:
Essential
• 2.1 degree in mechanical engineering or close equivalent from one of the top universities.
• Registered to become Chartered
Desirable
• Higher degree
• First class degree
• Qualification related to pipelines or offshore oil industry
• Right to work in the UK
• Chartered Engineer
Knowledge and experience required to do the job
Essential
• 5 years’ experience of subsea pipelines/riser design or operations
• 10 years’ experience of oil industry
Desirable
• Experience in the following
o consultancy
o supervision/appraisal
o presenting
o teaching
o project management
o sales
o purchasing
Specific technical/specialist skills required to do the job
Essential
• Maths: algebra, calculus and spreadsheets
• English: write fluently and faultlessly
• Speech: sufficiently clear and fluent to present
Desirable
• FEA or CFD
• Use of pipelines software
• Able to lead on any pipeline design, installation or integrity management subject
• Experience of drawings and CAD
• Touch type
• Full, clean driving licence
